Facts about Hospis Malaysia

  • Hospis Malaysia is the largest hospice in Malaysia. In 1992, they accepted 44 patients and in 2006 they had a total of 1183 referrals. Most suffer from lung cancer (237 patients), followed by breast cancer (164 patients) and liver cancer (112 patients). Basically they have a total of 944 cancer patients.
  • Patients who receive palliative care from Hospis Malaysia come from various age groups.
    • 0-9 years old (9 patients)
    • 10-19 years old (10 patients)
    • 60-69 years old (291 patients)
    • 70-79 years old (276 patients)
  • Hospis Malaysia needs such equipment to continue providing palliative care for their patients.
    • Pulse Oximeter (to measure oxygen level of blood, determine if need oxygen treatment)
    • Nebuliser (to facilitate the breathing process)
    • Sheepskin Rugs (for bedsores)
    • Other equipments such as :- Oxygen Concentrators, Ripple Mattresses, Wheelchairs, Syringe, Hospital Beds, Air Cushions
  • Hospis Malaysia's newsletter, Berita Hospis focuses a lot on communication. The publication educates the public in areas of how to cope with dying for patients and the people around them.
  • A total of RM 3 Million is needed for their new building. Contributions go to building of the educational center and daycare activity center within their new building.
  • Did you know that World Palliative Care Day is on the 6th October 2007. The day is for anyone who cares about, or is connect to hospice and Palliative Care around the world.
